Inner Guidance, in its most basic form, is the ability for an individual to tap into their connection to Spirit and receive specific answers to direct questions.

Today, we commonly call this intuition, sixth sense or practical spirituality.

Contrary to many historical teachings, you do not have to have any special powers or blessings to have this communication with your Inner Guidance.

All you need is to have the desire and open mind to having a connection with Spirit along with a willingness to learn how to receive your answers in your own, unique way.

In order to understand what Inner Guidance is, we have to start with recognizing who we really are and why we are here.

We were created out of a Loving Being of Energy. Some names this Being is called are Allah, God, Jehovah, All That Is, Brahman and other such diverse names. All of these names are an attempt for us to describe that which cannot be described.

We are spiritual beings who are experiencing a physical existence. We were created from spiritual energy with the ability to experience both physical and non-physical realities.

Second, as physics tells us, energy cannot be created or destroyed. We cannot be separated from that which created us because we have been created from that same essence.

Just like the diversity of names we use to describe a creator, we use the diversity of physical experiences (lives) to express our nature, to learn, grow, expand and understand the various possibilities that the Creator has allowed us to create.

By accepting that we are part of the essence of the Universal energy, we are already connected to All That Is. It is this connection that is our Inner Guidance.

Let's look at the current defintions for these words to see that even in the physical world, the understanding of inner guidance is pretty straightforward.

"Inner" by definition, means that which is private or secret. It also specifically mentions that which pertains to the mind or spirit.

"Guidance" as we discover, means to provide counseling or assistance when one seeks advice.

So, "Inner Guidance" is our ability to tap into that connection to our source by turning inward and receive assitance or information on whatever we are facing.

When researching this article, there were numerous sites offering spiritual guidance but few that encouraged an individual to go within and find that assistance directly.

In coaching, the premise is that all the answers you seek for your life are inside you - that is the only place they can be because no one can be the authority in your life but yourself. No one can truly dictate what is the appropriate path for you to follow or the choices you might make. There are as many paths to connecting with the Divine as there are people on the planet.

It is good that it is so. This diversity continually adds to the experience, joy and fulfillment of the ever expanding Universe. It allows all of us to pick and choose our life experiences and enjoy the process.
