Ready, Set, Goals!
Put the Power of Spirit Behind Your
Goals
by Cherise Greski - 03/25/09
In the past, have you set goals that you really,
really wanted (or thought you wanted)… and just couldn’t achieve them?
Have you wondered why that happened? Perhaps,
what started out as a great idea became a chore instead? Maybe you started to go into the woulda/coulda/shoulda
mode and got stuck?
While we’ve all been told that goal setting is a
good idea, if we don’t address some underlying issues all the goal setting in the world is not going to help.
Here are some observations and suggestions on the challenges people face with setting goals – perhaps you’ll
discover your challenge in one of these:
-
Lack of clarity on
why you want the goal – Do you really know why you want to
achieve this goal? Is it really YOUR goal, or a goal that you think you ‘should’ pursue? If you don’t
understand why you really want to achieve this goal, you may subconsciously find ways to sabotage your
success.
-
No timeline or an
unrealistic one – We all want what we want when we want
it – NOW! I think this is a reflection of our remembering that before we were
physical – we would think it and it would happen. We came here to experience time and then
spend our time fighting against it. Part of the goal is enjoying the journey. Ask yourself (and be
honest) if you have a realistic timeline. You may have to redefine the timeline as well as release the
anxiousness around achieving it by a certain date.
-
Is your goal a
good fit? – Sometimes, our goal is too big… and sometimes, it
is too small. If it is too big, it becomes overwhelming – even our small steps do not bring us joy. We
get caught up in the ‘impossibility’ of the goal and lose enthusiasm. If we cannot see/feel ourselves
already achieving the goal, we cannot keep the momentum going. If the goal is too small, it is not
persuasive enough to our heart to stay the course.
-
Deservedness
– We may want something wholeheartedly but there is that small
(ego) voice inside saying things like “I don’t deserve this.” “It is too good to be true for me.” “I’m
not good enough for this.” In order to address this issue, we have to look at these patterns and be
willing to know that we deserve all the love, happiness and success that we can envision for
ourselves.
-
Lack of daily
focus -- So, you have a goal… it’s out there in your mind. You might have even written it
down. You visualize it (sometimes) and you move toward it (maybe). It is daily, small, incremental
actions that really help people achieve a goal. If you only take your goals out to dust them off and
read them, your lack of daily focus is a factor in not achieving your goals.
These are only a few reasons that you might not be achieving
your goals but unless you address these, all the goal ‘setting’ in the world isn’t going to work. A fundamental to
successfully achieving anything is the clarity of WHY you wish to achieve the goal. Go within and ask Spirit to
provide you guidance on each goal you set, what is an appropriate timeline and to remove any issues of deservedness
from your consciousness. Then bring that goal to Spirit, release it for your highest good and listen for the next
key step you need to take to achieve it. Your world is truly
unlimited!
